Exploring Early Skills Through Baking

In 2 year old nursery today , something magical happened in our kitchen! The children became little bakers, ready to create their very own jam tarts. First, we gathered all the ingredients, soft butter, powdery flour, and creamy milk. The children took turns pouring and mixing, watching as the ingredients slowly transformed into a smooth pastry dough.

There were giggles and chatter as tiny hands worked hard, pressing and rolling the dough. Then came the best part—spooning in the shiny, sweet jam! Each child carefully added a dollop, concentrating so hard to make their tart just right.

When the trays were ready, we popped them into the oven and waited patiently. The smell of warm pastry filled the room, and the children’s faces lit up with excitement. Finally, it was time to taste their Amazing jam tarts and they were beautiful.

This activity wasn’t just about baking; it was about teamwork, learning new words, exploring textures, and building confidence. Our little bakers showed amazing cooperation and joy in creating something special together.

Creative Autumn Art

Today we went outside with our buckets to collect lots of beautiful leaves. We looked closely at all the different colours and shapes—there were so many to explore!

Afterwards, we brought the leaves inside for some exciting activities. We filled a big tray and everyone did an amazing job using the scissor scoops to pick up the leaves. It was a great way to practice our fine motor skills while having fun!

In nursery we explored the beauty of autumn through art! We used the leaves we collected to make leaf rubbings. It was a little tricky to hold the crayon on its side, but you all worked so hard and created amazing patterns! Next, we painted over the leaves using lovely autumn colours like red, orange, yellow, and brown. The results were beautiful and full of seasonal charm!

Well done, everyone—you made fantastic autumn artwork.

We had so much fun exploring autumn! After our amazing leaf rubbings and painting with autumn colours, we went back outside to collect even more leaves. It was a great chance to enjoy the fresh air, have fun together, and keep learning about the beautiful changes that happen in autumn, what wonderful little explorers!

Exploring Autumn Wonders in Our School Woods

This week, we ventured into the beautiful school woods to celebrate the magic of autumn. The vibrant colours of falling leaves and the crisp air created the perfect setting for an outdoor adventure.

The children delighted in walking beneath the towering trees, listening to the satisfying crunch of leaves underfoot. As we explored, we collected leaves and twigs to create a sensory tray back in the classroom, an activity that encourages hands-on learning and sparks curiosity about the natural world.

To make the experience even more special, Mrs Bah gathered the children under the canopy of golden leaves and read a short story. Surrounded by nature, the story came alive, creating a moment of calm and wonder.

Why Outdoor Learning Matters
Outdoor experiences like these help children develop a deeper connection with nature, enhance their sensory awareness, and foster creativity. They also provide opportunities for physical activity and mindfulness in a natural setting.

Diwali Fun

This week, we celebrated Diwali—the festival of lights—with lots of colourful and creative activities! We began by sharing a lovely story all about Diwali, helping the children learn about the lights, colours, and joy of the festival. Everyone listened beautifully and joined in with lots of enthusiasm. The children really enjoyed looking at the Diwali books and dressing up too.

Next, we got creative with rangoli colouring, using bright colours to decorate beautiful patterns. The children loved choosing their favourite shades and filling in the designs

To finish, we made firework patterns using a washing-up brush dipped in paint—what a fun and sparkly way to celebrate! The children were fascinated by the bursts of colour they created.

It was a wonderful week full of learning, creativity, and celebration. Happy Diwali! ✨

Family Reading Session

It was wonderful to see so many of our parents engaging with their children during our family reading session this week. Sharing books with your child is so important, it helps them learn new words, understand their feelings, build imagination, improve focus, and strengthen your bond together.

All About Me – Look What We Can Do!

Over the past couple of weeks, we’ve been having so much fun learning All About Me and discovering all the amazing things we can do, even at just 2 years old!

Our little learners have been busy exploring their world through play and creativity. We’ve enjoyed:

Sharing books together – such as Elmer’s Colours and Ten Little Fingers and Ten Little Toes.
Creating wonderful collages – sticking, layering, and expressing ourselves with colours and textures.
Squishing and shaping playdough – making all sorts of fun shapes and strengthening our little fingers.
Balancing along beams – showing off our coordination and confidence.
Climbing on the climbing frame – building strength and independence with every step.

One of our favourite activity has been making handprints and footprints. The children love seeing their own marks on paper and noticing how different they all are.

It’s a lovely way for them to learn that everyone is special and unique, no two prints are the same, just like no two children are the same.

We have also had a brilliant time singing, dancing, and learning about our bodies. Action songs like Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes and The Hokey Dokey make learning so much fun. Well done to our 2 year olds, you are all wonderful and take everything in your stride.

Welcome back 2YO

We’ve had a lovely first two weeks settling back into nursery life. It’s been wonderful to see our two-year-olds reconnect with their friends after the long holidays. There’s been lots of fun both indoors and outdoors as we explore, play, and learn together.

A big well done to our new starters who joined us in the second week — you’ve settled in beautifully and we’re so proud of how confident and curious you’ve been already!

Here’s to a fantastic year ahead full of laughter, learning, and growing together!
